Although your shuttle bus ended up being branded "Norge", Norway had been america exactly where all of us used definitely the least occasion through the Scandinavian vacation. There seemed to be merely one park your car to see, Tusenfryd. Considering that it can be gotten to by using a tour coming from Sweden we all are not even about to continue to be right away with Norway. I'd personally get loved to obtain acquired a lot more time to check out Oslo, a new town that I had relished during each of our short pay a visit to throughout 2004 (this ended up being just a few days to weeks prior to Oslo dread attack). On the other hand, circumstances had been not very good at any rate; the actual outlook for the morning ended up being quite dreary, as wll as we got a substantial amount of rainwater though with the car park, though it absolutely was the good thing is certainly not constant. <br> <br>We had for the park with no pauses. This border bridging from Sweden (and the one in the future of which day along the way back) has been incredibly picturesque. When i heard many surveillance cameras getting upset even as we transferred around some sort of lake. Many of us achieved regarding launching time, in addition to had been mentioned on the car park easily. Tusenfryd has been the primary playground about the journey which didn't allow us the wristband in order to don. <br> <br>Tusenfryd's entrance is usually distinct. The entire park your car was made on a slope, consequently we'd for taking a escalator to get inside of. The escalator journeyed right throughout the loops in the park's most up-to-date coaster, SpeedMonster. It generated for the dramatic entrance, particularly when a teach went right above and under you even as rode upward. <br><br>SpeedMonster had been wherever many of us travelled first. Its extended structure, a lot of the item due to a long, straight section of start trail, meant we needed to stroll a large mileage just to get at this train station. We chose the rear seat for our first drive. The idea received holistic dragster concept, which include the powerplant revving noise as we had been ready for being released, but it really has been shortly forgotten because train sped along the trail from the actual audio speakers. <br> <br>Certainly probably the most remarkable instant on the trip seemed to be the initial cycle, one covering round the escalator. It was configured for you to distort this prepare such that the idea nearly decided not to proceed ugly (there were a later on entire inversion though). There were additionally 2 later on mountains using well-defined twists since the prepare gone above the clothes. Just one has been therefore razor-sharp of which Janna travelled "ow" over the journey, but i thought this was the one unfavorable thing regarding the ride; the remaining has been good. <br><br><br><br>Since there was its own journey time setup about SpeedMonster intended for as soon as the playground shut, most of us didn't drive all over again at that time, nevertheless we normally almost certainly would've or else for the. Rather we began to create a wide loop throughout the park to help test the opposite sites. The primary will be a coaster termed Loopen but it really has been lower for some reason, thus we got the opportunity for the snow cream go to with the Isslottet (Ice Lotion Castle) close by. This time I managed to get normal the rocks ointment in lieu of gentle provide, candy mint taste. It was beneficial, and not the best on the journey. Whilst buying and also consuming many of us experienced a new discussion with all the lady offering us all. She would definitely possibly be visiting Oh later which summer time, in addition to ended up being enthusiastic about chatting while using Us residents. <br><br>By time all of us were being done, Loopen has been open. There is certainly very little to say with this coaster. This times coming from concerning the past due 70's or beginning 80's and goes the wrong way up three times, when doing might be found ended up being fresh new in addition to new. Right now this indicates abrasive and also dated. Janna even missed out the idea entirely. Regarding ordinary people, it turned out one particular and also done. <br><br>Nearby has been an infinitely more useful destination known as Nightmare, a kind of combination drive and show. This had swapped out a younger walk-through haunted house which I'd loved considering that the are living actors within just have been quite hostile about scaring men and women, however Nightmare in addition was such as a suitable interest in addition to many of us wanted to try it out. As we approached, the item did start to drizzle. Protection in the queue seemed to be limited, and so many of us were specially pleased whenever we had been publicly stated on the drive soon after 2 instead prolonged running menstrual cycles. <br> <br>Nightmare got a couple of stages for people like us to plod through. Initial has been a "preshow" where by most of us just was along with saw a little motion picture outlining this ride's tale. Obviously we couldn't realize the actual dialect. Even though we would, i'd have gotten difficulties experiencing the actual soundtrack over the stimulating noise of the ride next place. It held generating appears as if a new electric motor was revving upwards as well as decreasing back. The item maintained attracting my personal consideration away from the particular history. Via exactly what I can decide, the actual villain in the journey had been ladies model on the first the twentieth millennium, along with your ex professional photographers ended up the girl henchmen. However exactly why your woman was bad I really could not necessarily tell. <br> <br>The trip bedroom at the least gone away the cause from the seem. The item originated from the revolving program which may encounter in several instructions although many of us watched animations scenes. The particular sound I'd heard seemed to be this rotation with the experience. Every individuals seats acquired a light marker which usually we're able to utilize to capture at issues along with rack up standing, however I seriously decided not to include any kind of perception of what things to have. At the end with the trip the actual lots had been placed beside pictures of our own encounters, although My partner and i just realized this way too late and also didn't find what the score ended up being. We uncertainty Used to do well. Sizzling hot I knew I had reach anything more was of which the firearm vibrated having every struck. As well as the filming and revolving tasks of the experience, there were a number of gimmicks from the chairs that will concluded in our experiencing such as most of us ended up currently being poked in your necks and backside at different points. In general it turned out a good enjoyable and exclusive trip, in addition to we might test it yet again afterwards inside day. As a advantage, it got quit raining from the moment all of us bought away. <br> <br>Being on top of the slope, there is a lots of rising associated with navigating via Tusenfryd, and most of us began to help make our own strategy to the upper elements of the actual park your car. Concerning halfway up has been the new-to-us trip named SpinSpider. It is a pendulum-style drive, nonetheless it appeared amazingly major. I am unable to recollect ever before acquiring seen more substantial one. This specific intended in which competitors had been swung out and about quite high; actually fairly beyond 90 levels. This presented us time to look down upon the particular thick this tree woods, basically perhaps one among my own almost all iconic graphic recollections by Norway. All of us liked your trip as well as went back to it later inside the time. <br><br>While riding the actual SpinSpider My partner and i seen an interesting-looking fascination, the particular "troll path". Our consideration was initially fascinated by way of a troll physique meant to appear to be it absolutely was smothered down below any lake, having merely it is go along with arms protruding. Right after each of our drive had been in excess of we visited check out more. It was some sort of minor impediment course using troll figures scattered in the course of. Your singled out route presented Joe as well as Paul a great destination for a sneak the light up, as otherwise using tobacco was simply granted throughout chosen regions. What's more, it supplied an excellent alternative vantage indicate check out this SpinSpider, and a few buddies regarding mine later on discovered outdoors raspberries expanding right now there. <br><br><br>The troll journey allow us to out through one of Tusenfryd's leading destinations, the particular Thundercoaster timber roller coaster, so that is certainly where by we all gone subsequent. We're able to go almost entirely over the prolonged, seriously grown queue of which injury aimlessly despite the coaster's composition prior to we obtained to the stage we to have to wait. <br> <br>I wound up using Thundercoaster 3 times in which day, two times at the top as soon as on the back again. There have been various moments associated with extreme airtime, particularly around the next hillside the location where the rollover was extremely extreme. Nonetheless, your transforms were being somewhat difficult as well as the bumpiness within the valleys afforded myself a headaches. General I ran across the particular trip being peppier as compared to it was in the 2004 stop by, nevertheless greater in-front as opposed to back, although not all to easy to trip frequently. It had been the a sense of shame since I seriously desired to enjoy it. Beneath the many thumping roughness is a good drive needing to come out. <br><br>We ended up privileged to get upon the primary drive when we did since soon after most of us bought off, the actual skies popped. We anxiously waited because of it to help abate under a great awning with the shop that individuals getting out Thundercoaster get to feed. Judging on the seem, we were looking at nonetheless operating Thundercoaster, nevertheless Perhaps it happens to be true thunder (I absolutely noticed absolutely no super, though). Although we had not any need to trip under people disorders. Most of us was at this time there simply viewing the stream flow lower the pathways. The actual dull mineral water perhaps found myself in slightly water fall placed in any rock and roll in on the list of paths, making it operate brown for a while. <br> <br>Finally the rainfall abated (it would likely rain on and off at all hours, yet certainly not all over again seeing that challenging because that), and all of us sooner or later ongoing your tour on the car park. The next part most of us been to had been any cul-de-sac having only one item involving actual curiosity in order to us all, some sort of normal water coaster called Supersplash. There was furthermore an extremely amazing dragon's mind give, nonetheless it didn't appear to be connected with just about any journey as well as present. We did not use, nevertheless has been advised it triggered a huge available space, seemingly pertaining to catered functions. <br><br>Supersplash's rank to be a coaster is relatively suspect too. People drive in a fishing boat of which goas over the minimal dip with dry out track, after that manufactured the actual large jump into the water, followed by a last little hump out from the h2o and also last with the closing splashdown. It absolutely was fewer exciting possibly as compared to Vonkaputous on Linnanmki ended up. It did get a little side to side drive about the switch at the pinnacle, a component a single will not count on at a flume, and so no less than there seemed to be some modest justification in order to count the idea as a coaster. Janna, obtaining ridden as soon as ahead of, decided not to trip, which in turn authorized you to provide anything for you to your ex we wanted to preserve dry. Eventually the item weren't far too moist regardless, simply just a bit of a sprinkle inside confront. <br><br>There had been the opposite coaster on the car park, however it certainly not ran. That was not most of a loss anyway, the way it ended up being a new kiddie coaster known as "Teeny Weeny" in addition to expensed because smallest roller coaster on earth. It's a maximum of a great square together with a single several foot or so high mountain which the coach (with sweet automobile-themed cars) tends to make many circuits regarding. It will happen to be uncomfortable to be able to experience the idea. I realize, since i have experienced completed and so in 2004. In fact when i rode the item that period, I'd designed after that it to become this 500th coaster I would ridden. <br><br>It seemed to be lunch, and we not any settled supper of which time. Had all of us had the opportunity to get to a new cafe with out acquiring steeped the item is a great way for you to go time through the rainfall. We all compared some options, along with decided to go with the park's entire buffet given it was not much more in comparison with what exactly we would include compensated for you to only obtain lasagna. I do believe your buffet possibly experienced garlic bread although We failed to get it. In addition they got a selection that will involved tacos, pasta salad, a few casseroles, fish, and also a drink. A single strange factor We observed through the entire vacation had been how the Danes appeared to just like marinated garlic herb cloves. I'd view these people with a number of buffets. Incidentally, we all realized that the silverware was furnished by Ikea. . been maintaining an informal Ikea count number with the getaway and I really believe got noticed a few through this point. My partner and i tend not to remember the final tally. <br> <br>After meal we all completed our ascend towards the highest area of the actual park. The leading interest the following had been some sort of up and down ride known as "Japp Spaceshot" (Japp is usually seemingly many different candy). The actual experience itself, by which cyclists are generally increased rapidly and then reversal once or twice, is reasonably program, nevertheless it surely possesses a superb check out. Unfortunately, competitors are just picture substantial sufficient to savor this for any quick period. Any drop experience which has a slow vacation to the very best has been a much better choice. <br> <br>Another destination in the community I might recently been getting excited about seemed to be an appartment experience referred to as your Rollover. It had been some sort of alternative of any instead frequent drive using the general title Top Spin, during which riders table a good system that can travel around inside a big directory group of friends whilst carrying out flips. However, Rollover, since seemed to be the circumstance for Eu flights, had been much more excessive. An average "good" Leading Rewrite ride is certain to get about 5 flips. All of us measured 16 on a single Rollover cycle. Moreover, this [http://Www.Blanche.no/parajumpers.asp program] may tilt in the horizontally to increase your enjoyment. Sadly each of our experience with 2004 has not been around the quality of 17 flips, and I'd been recently wishing to get another opportunity. No like fortune, your ride had been eliminated, one of my larger disenchantment on the time. <br> <br>The others rode a journey close by referred to as Polyp however My spouse and i seated that available. It had been some sort of content spinning journey, certainly not my own design, as well as I would ridden this kind of rides prior to. That one was strange since the typically bitter looks designed into the drive tubs had happiness coated in it. <br><br>There had been several intriguing situations en route along through the mountain that provide a few impression from the personality from the car park. Initial we all passed a odd statue of the person with a entire body created from pieces of berries. This became peculiar enough, however 2 other things definitely highlighted the actual American flavor on the park your car. 1st, many of us happened to run in several each of our friends having a great time close to any ground-level component of the particular wood flume. By simply "next to" After all genuinely alongside, as with they are able to possess slapped arms with bikers when they would planned to. As a substitute, they were carrying out something cleverer, camouflaging beneath the trough until eventually some sort of wood floated by means of and then advertised to help shock the riders. These people got some good tendencies! It is a sort of fun that might be absolutely not possible in different U . s . playground, where by almost any spot consequently all around a trip could be absolutely restricted. <br><br> <br>We might view another like indication associated with ethnical dissimilarities simply in the course. Some sort of constrained area had been delineated simply by an indication indicating that people should never walk any further. There is absolutely no fence as well as gateway at all, shoppers ended up simply just likely to value the particular indication. <br> <br>We'd run out associated with new sights to experience, although at the very least there are many we cared to be able to duplicate. Almost everything most of us would coming from that time until finally your drive occasion following recreation area closed ended up being any replicate connected with a thing . done prior to: SpinSpider, ThunderCoaster, in addition to Nightmare. The particular Pain trip ended up being essentially the most unforgettable since the drive out of cash lower midway as a result of. Many people tried out for getting that operating again, but many they are able to accomplish had been give back the particular platform into a placement in which we could sell and quit. <br> <br>Finally the extra journey time with SpeedMonster experienced showed up while using the park's closure towards the typical general public. However one member of everyone managed to postpone us in any case, while he'd dropped a few merchandise within the ride along with this individual and a few stability folks expended some time trying to find it even though all of us refrigerated your high heels within the train station. Luckily this specific was not too much of an obstacle. Many of us however got four trips, in addition to probably might have obtained an additional prior to we had to go back to the mentors. SpeedMonster is really a enjoyment sufficient journey, yet that was lots for people like us. <br> <br>All in all of the, We enjoyed Tusenfryd sufficiently, as well as surely might have enjoyed it far better offered much more good weather conditions. On the other hand, under the ideal connected with circumstances When i don't believe it fits approximately the best recreational areas for the excursion, for example Grna Lund. Nonetheless, such as almost all European theme parks, it had been really very and well-groomed. Going 1 spot of marigolds near the SpinSpider, some sort of striking fruit coloring even though this heavens have been greay. <br><br>We got a reasonably extended generate to help Sweden in which nighttime using just one single rest cease. At least this received lavatories and in many cases a region in order to wander about inside, nevertheless no place to look or maybe get a goody, as well as precisely what this tour bus people supplied. Thankfully Janna and I had packed many goodies in addition to experienced these practical, otherwise we would have been in difficulty. However the idea had not been a really satisfying supper. <br> <br>Fortunately, the particular instructor car owner had a movie to be able to engage in for people like us for that extended generate on Sweden. Sadly, it was "Music in addition to Lyrics", that didn't entice many people. A different in the motor coachs had got to view "Borat", which i would have loved superior! About the most interesting thing in regards to the video was your opening mock take video collection, in addition to the truth that the particular washed-up artisan played simply by Hugh Give ended up being reported to be taking part in on a lot of theme parks When i ended up being knowledgeable about! <br> <br>Our lodging of which evening and the following ended up wonderful. The Gothia Podiums motel has been right across through our playground with regard to the next day, Liseberg. We had a fantastic in addition to tantalizing see of the park your car by the area. This will end up being easy because it would allow us to invest a whole day time generally there while not having to concern yourself with the particular mentors. It had been furthermore the particular best hotel we would stayed on on the vacation. One of the many pleasant highlites was a couple of Toblerone sweet watering holes set up to appear such as systems in the hotel. Fatigued from a long evening and awaiting another one, we have got to mattress rapidly. <br> <br> <br>This article will be just one in the string. Though our bus was named "Norge", Norway was the country where we spent by far the least time during our Scandinavian trip. There was only one park to visit, Tusenfryd. Since it could be reached via a day trip from Sweden we weren't even going to stay overnight in Norway. I'd have liked to have had some more time to visit Oslo, a city that I'd enjoyed during our brief visit in 2004 (this was just a few days before the Oslo terror attack). However, conditions were not very good anyway; the forecast for that day was pretty dreary, and indeed we got quite a bit of rain while at the park, though it was fortunately not constant.<br><br>We drove to the park with no breaks. The border crossing from Sweden (and the one later that day on the way back) was very scenic. I heard lots of cameras snapping as we passed near a lake. We arrived at about opening time, and were admitted to the park quickly. Tusenfryd was the first park on the trip that didn't give us a wristband to wear.<br><br>Tusenfryd's entrance is distinctive. The entire park is built on a hill, so we had to take an escalator just to get inside. The escalator went directly through the loops of the park's newest coaster, SpeedMonster. It made for a dramatic entrance, particularly when a train went right over and then under us as we rode up.<br><br>SpeedMonster was where we went first. Its extended layout, much of it due to a long, straight section of launch track, meant that we had to walk a considerable distance just to get to the station. We chose the back seat for our first ride. It had a general dragster theme, including an engine revving noise as we were waiting to be launched, but it was soon left behind as the train sped along the track away from the speakers.<br><br>Certainly the most memorable moment of the ride was the first loop, the one wrapping around the escalator. It was configured to twist the train such that it almost didn't go upside down (there were a later full inversion though). There were also two later hills with sharp twists as the train went over their tops. One was so sharp that Janna went "ow" during the ride, but this was the only negative thing about the ride; the rest was good.<br><br><br><br>Since we had a special ride time set up on SpeedMonster for after the park closed, we didn't ride again at that time, though we otherwise almost certainly would have if not for that. Instead we began to make a wide loop around the park to sample the other attractions. The first would have been a coaster called Loopen but it was down for some reason, so we took the opportunity for our ice cream visit at the Isslottet (Ice Cream Castle) nearby. This time I got regular ice cream rather than soft serve, chocolate mint flavor. It was good, but not the best of the trip. While ordering and eating we got into a conversation with the woman serving us. She was going to be visiting Ohio later that summer, and was interested in talking with the Americans.<br><br>By the time we were done, Loopen was open. There's not much to say about this coaster. It dates from about the late 70's or early 80's and goes upside down three times, back when doing such things was fresh and new. Now it seems rough and outdated. Janna even skipped it entirely. For the rest of us, it was one and done.<br><br>Nearby was a much more interesting attraction called Nightmare, a kind of  [http://tinyurl.com/parajumpersno http://tinyurl.com/parajumpersno] combination ride and show. It had replaced an earlier walk-through haunted house that I'd liked because the live actors within had been quite aggressive about scaring people, but Nightmare also sounded like a worthy attraction and we wanted to try it. As we approached, it began to drizzle. Shelter in the queue was limited, so we were particularly glad when we were admitted to the ride after two rather long loading cycles.<br><br>Nightmare had two stages for us to go through. First was a "preshow" where we just stood and watched a bit of film explaining the ride's story. Of course we couldn't understand the language. Even if we did, we'd have had trouble hearing the soundtrack over the intriguing sound of the ride within the next room. It kept making sounds as if a motor was revving up and slowing back down. It kept drawing my attention away from the story. From what I could determine, the villain of the ride was a female model from the early 20th century, and her photographers were her henchmen. But why she was evil I could not tell.<br><br>The ride room at least cleared up the source of the sound. It came from a rotating platform that could face in different directions while we watched 3D scenes. The noise I'd heard was the rotation of the ride. Each person's seat had a light gun which we could use to shoot at things and rack up scores, though I really didn't have any idea of what to aim for. At the end of the ride the scores were posted next to pictures of our faces, but I only realized this too late and didn't catch what my score was. I doubt I did very well. The only way I knew I'd hit anything at all was that my gun vibrated with each hit. In addition to the shooting and rotation aspects of the ride, there were a few gimmicks in the seats that led to our feeling like we were being poked in our necks and backs at various points. All in all it was an entertaining and unique ride, and we would try it again later in the day. As a bonus, it had stopped raining by the time we got out.<br><br>Being atop a hill, there is a lot of climbing involved in navigating through Tusenfryd, and we began to make our way to the upper parts of the park. About halfway up was a new-to-us ride called SpinSpider. It is a pendulum-style ride, but it looked ridiculously big. I can't recall ever having seen a bigger one. This meant that riders were swung out very high; in fact somewhat past 90 degrees. This gave us a chance to look down on the dense pine trees, actually perhaps one of my most iconic visual memories from Norway. We loved the ride and returned to it later in the day.<br><br>While riding the SpinSpider I spotted an interesting-looking attraction, the "troll path". My attention was first attracted by a troll figure made to look like it was buried beneath a pond, with only its head and hands sticking out. After our ride was over we went to investigate further. It was a kind of mild obstacle course with troll figures scattered throughout. The isolated path gave Chris and Mike a good place to sneak a smoke, as otherwise smoking was only allowed in designated areas. It also offered a great alternate vantage point to watch the SpinSpider, and some friends of ours later found wild raspberries growing there.<br><br><br>The troll path let us out by one of Tusenfryd's premier attractions, the Thundercoaster wood roller coaster, so that's where we went next. We could walk almost entirely through the long, heavily planted queue that wound aimlessly amidst the coaster's structure before we got to the point we had to wait.<br><br>I wound up riding Thundercoaster three times that day, twice near the front and once near the back. There were several moments of intense airtime, particularly on the second hill where the rollover was very steep. However, the turns were somewhat rough and the bumpiness in the valleys gave me a bit of a headache. Overall I found the ride to be peppier than it had been on my 2004 visit, though better in front than the back, but not easy to ride repeatedly. It was a shame because I really wanted to like it. Underneath all the pounding roughness is a good ride wanting to come out.<br><br>We were fortunate to get on our first ride when we did because shortly after we got off, the skies opened. We waited for it to abate under an awning of the shop that all riders exiting Thundercoaster have to pass through. Judging from the sound, they were still running Thundercoaster, though I suppose it could have been actual thunder (I certainly saw no lightning, though). But we had no desire to ride under those conditions. We stood there just watching the water stream down the paths. The muddy water even got into a little fountain set in a rock on one of the paths, making it run brown for a while.<br><br>Finally the rain abated (it would rain on and off throughout the day, but never again as hard as that), and we eventually continued our tour of the park. The next section we visited was a cul-de-sac with only one item of real interest to us, a water coaster called Supersplash. There was also a very impressive dragon's head cave, but it didn't seem to be associated with any kind of ride or show. I didn't go in, but was told it led to a large open room, apparently for catered events.<br><br>Supersplash's status as a coaster is somewhat questionable too. Passengers ride in a boat that goas over a minor dip on dry track, then made the big plunge into the water, followed by a final small hump out of the water and back in for the final splashdown. It was less interesting even than Vonkaputous at Linnanmki had been. It did have a bit of lateral force on the turn at the top, an element one doesn't expect from a flume, so at least there was some minor justification to count it as a coaster. Janna, having ridden once before, decided not to ride, which allowed us to give everything to her that we wanted to keep dry. In the end it wasn't too wet anyway, just a bit of a splash in the face.<br><br>There was one other coaster at the park, but it never ran. This wasn't much of a loss anyway, as it was a kiddie coaster called "Teeny Weeny" and billed as the smallest roller coaster in the world. It is no more than an oval with one five foot tall hill that the train (with cute automobile-themed cars) makes several circuits of. It would have been embarrassing to ride it. I know, since I had done so in 2004. In fact when I rode it that time, I'd engineered it then to be the 500th coaster I'd ridden.<br><br>It was lunchtime, and we had no paid meal that day. Had we been able to get to a restaurant without getting drenched it would have been a good way to pass the time during the rain. We compared a few options, and decided to go with the park's full buffet since it was not much more than what we'd have paid to just get pizza. I think the buffet even had pizza though I didn't get it. They also had a choice that included tacos, pasta salad, a couple of casseroles, salmon, and a drink. One odd thing I noticed throughout the trip was that the Danes seemed to like marinated garlic cloves. I'd see them at several buffets. Incidentally, we noticed that the silverware was supplied by Ikea. We'd been keeping an informal Ikea count through the trip and I believe had seen three by this point. I don't remember the final tally.<br><br>After lunch we completed our climb to the highest portion of the park. The main attraction here was a vertical ride called "Japp Spaceshot" (Japp is apparently a variety of candy). The ride itself, in which riders are shot up rapidly and then bounce a few times, is fairly routine, but it certainly does offer a good view. Unfortunately, riders are only shot high enough to enjoy it for a brief time. A drop ride with a slower trip to the top might have been a better choice.<br><br>Another [http://Tinyurl.com/parajumpersno attraction] in the area I'd been looking forward to was a flat ride called the Rollover. It was a variant of a rather common ride with the generic name Top Spin, in which riders board a long platform that can travel around in a large vertical circle while executing flips. However, Rollover, as was often the case for European rides, was more extreme. A typical "good" Top Spin ride will get about 5 flips. We counted 18 on one Rollover cycle. In addition, the platform can tilt from the horizontal to add to the fun. Unfortunately our ride in 2004 was not up to the level of 18 flips, and I had been hoping to get another chance. No such luck, the ride was gone, one of my bigger disappointments of the day.<br><br>The others rode a ride nearby called Polyp but I sat it out. It was a spinning ride, not my style, and I'd ridden such rides before. This one was unusual because the usually sour faces carved into the ride tubs had smiles painted on them.<br><br>There were several interesting occurrences on the way down from the hill that give some sense of the character of the park. First we passed an odd sculpture of a guy with a body made of pieces of fruit. This was odd enough, but two other things really highlighted the European flavor of the park. First, we ran into a group of our friends having fun next to a ground-level portion of the log flume. By "next to" I mean really next to, as in they could have slapped hands with riders if they'd wanted to. Instead, they were doing something cleverer, hiding beneath the trough until a log floated by and then popping up to scare the riders. They got some good reactions! However, conditions were not very good anyway; the forecast for that day was pretty dreary, and indeed we got quite a bit of rain while at the park, though it was fortunately not constant.

We drove to the park with no breaks. The border crossing from Sweden (and the one later that day on the way back) was very scenic. I heard lots of cameras snapping as we passed near a lake. We arrived at about opening time, and were admitted to the park quickly. Tusenfryd was the first park on the trip that didn't give us a wristband to wear.

Tusenfryd's entrance is distinctive. The entire park is built on a hill, so we had to take an escalator just to get inside. The escalator went directly through the loops of the park's newest coaster, SpeedMonster. It made for a dramatic entrance, particularly when a train went right over and then under us as we rode up.

SpeedMonster was where we went first. Its extended layout, much of it due to a long, straight section of launch track, meant that we had to walk a considerable distance just to get to the station. We chose the back seat for our first ride. It had a general dragster theme, including an engine revving noise as we were waiting to be launched, but it was soon left behind as the train sped along the track away from the speakers.

Certainly the most memorable moment of the ride was the first loop, the one wrapping around the escalator. It was configured to twist the train such that it almost didn't go upside down (there were a later full inversion though). There were also two later hills with sharp twists as the train went over their tops. One was so sharp that Janna went "ow" during the ride, but this was the only negative thing about the ride; the rest was good.

Since we had a special ride time set up on SpeedMonster for after the park closed, we didn't ride again at that time, though we otherwise almost certainly would have if not for that. She was going to be visiting Ohio later that summer, and was interested in talking with the Americans.

By the time we were done, Loopen was open. There's not much to say about this coaster. It dates from about the late 70's or early 80's and goes upside down three times, back when doing such things was fresh and new. Now it seems rough and outdated. Janna even skipped it entirely. For the rest of us, it was one and done.

Nearby was a much more interesting attraction called Nightmare, a kind of http://tinyurl.com/parajumpersno combination ride and show. It had replaced an earlier walk-through haunted house that I'd liked because the live actors within had been quite aggressive about scaring people, but Nightmare also sounded like a worthy attraction and we wanted to try it. As we approached, it began to drizzle. Shelter in the queue was limited, so we were particularly glad when we were admitted to the ride after two rather long loading cycles.

Nightmare had two stages for us to go through. But why she was evil I could not tell.

The ride room at least cleared up the source of the sound. As a bonus, it had stopped raining by the time we got out.

Being atop a hill, there is a lot of climbing involved in navigating through Tusenfryd, and we began to make our way to the upper parts of the park. We loved the ride and returned to it later in the day.

While riding the SpinSpider I spotted an interesting-looking attraction, the "troll path". It also offered a great alternate vantage point to watch the SpinSpider, and some friends of ours later found wild raspberries growing there.

The troll path let us out by one of Tusenfryd's premier attractions, the Thundercoaster wood roller coaster, so that's where we went next. We could walk almost entirely through the long, heavily planted queue that wound aimlessly amidst the coaster's structure before we got to the point we had to wait.

I wound up riding Thundercoaster three times that day, twice near the front and once near the back. Underneath all the pounding roughness is a good ride wanting to come out.

We were fortunate to get on our first ride when we did because shortly after we got off, the skies opened. The muddy water even got into a little fountain set in a rock on one of the paths, making it run brown for a while.

Finally the rain abated (it would rain on and off throughout the day, but never again as hard as that), and we eventually continued our tour of the park. The next section we visited was a cul-de-sac with only one item of real interest to us, a water coaster called Supersplash. There was also a very impressive dragon's head cave, but it didn't seem to be associated with any kind of ride or show. I didn't go in, but was told it led to a large open room, apparently for catered events.

Supersplash's status as a coaster is somewhat questionable too. In the end it wasn't too wet anyway, just a bit of a splash in the face.

There was one other coaster at the park, but it never ran. In fact when I rode it that time, I'd engineered it then to be the 500th coaster I'd ridden.

It was lunchtime, and we had no paid meal that day. I don't remember the final tally.

After lunch we completed our climb to the highest portion of the park. A drop ride with a slower trip to the top might have been a better choice.

Another attraction in the area I'd been looking forward to was a flat ride called the Rollover. No such luck, the ride was gone, one of my bigger disappointments of the day.

The others rode a ride nearby called Polyp but I sat it out. It was a spinning ride, not my style, and I'd ridden such rides before. This one was unusual because the usually sour faces carved into the ride tubs had smiles painted on them.

There were several interesting occurrences on the way down from the hill that give some sense of the character of the park. This is a kind of fun that would be completely impossible in any American park, where any area so close to a ride would be completely restricted.

We could see another such indication of cultural differences just up the path. A restricted area was delineated simply by a sign saying that we shouldn't walk any further. There was no fence or gate at all, customers were just expected to respect the sign.

We'd run out of new attractions to ride, but at least there were several that we cared to repeat. Everything we did from that point until our ride time after the park closed was a repeat of something we'd done before: SpinSpider, ThunderCoaster, and Nightmare. The Nightmare ride was the most memorable because the ride broke down midway through. They tried to get it running again, but all they could do was return the platform to a position where we could unload and exit.

Finally our extra ride time on SpeedMonster had arrived with the park's closure to the regular public. However one member of the public managed to delay us anyway, as he'd lost some item on the ride and he and some security people spent some time looking for it while we cooled our heels in the station. Fortunately this wasn't too much of an impediment. We still managed to get four rides, and probably could have taken one more before we had to return to our coaches. SpeedMonster is a fun enough ride, but that was plenty for us.

All in all, I enjoyed Tusenfryd well enough, and certainly would have enjoyed it better given more favorable weather. However, under the best of circumstances I don't think it matches up to my favorite parks on the trip, such as Grna Lund. However, like almost all European parks, it was very pretty and well-groomed. I remember one patch of marigolds near the SpinSpider, a bold orange color even when the skies were greay.

We had a fairly long drive to Sweden that evening with just one rest stop. At least this one had toilets and even an area to walk around in, but still no place to shop or get a snack, apart from what the bus drivers supplied. Fortunately Janna and I had packed some snack foods and had them handy, otherwise we'd have been in trouble. Even so it wasn't a very satisfying dinner.

Fortunately, the coach driver had a movie to play for us for the long drive back into Sweden. Unfortunately, it was "Music and Lyrics", which didn't appeal to many of us. Another of the coaches got to watch "Borat", which I would have liked much better! About the most interesting thing about the movie was the opening mock pop video sequence, and the fact that the washed-up artist played by Hugh Grant was said to be playing at many amusement parks I was familiar with!

Our accommodations that night and the next were great. The Gothia Towers hotel was right across from our park for the next day, Liseberg. We had a great and tantalizing view of the park from our room. This would be convenient as it would allow us to spend an entire day there without having to worry about the coaches. It was also the nicest hotel we'd stayed at on the trip. Among the many nice touches was a pair of Toblerone candy bars arranged to look like the towers of the hotel. Tired from a long day and looking forward to another one, we got to bed quickly.
