Spartanburg Methodist College was founded in 1911 as Textile Industrial Institute by Dr. David English Camak, a Methodist minister. In the very first cooperative education plan inside the country, students worked for a week then took classes for any week. In 1942, Textile Industrial Institute became Spartanburg Junior College when it focused on delivering associate degrees developed for transfer into a range of bachelor degree applications.
