Spartanburg Methodist Collegeis a private, two-year institution of larger learning, or junior college, located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It is South Carolina's only independent, regionally-accredited, residential two-year college. As a junior college, it gives students the opportunity to concentrate on their freshman and sophomore years of college so as to prepare them for transfer to a four-year college or university. Spartanburg Methodist College offers a curriculum created to assist prepare students for this transition, and to prepare their graduates for life.

Spartanburg Methodist College was founded in 1911 as Textile Industrial Institute by Dr. David English Camak, a Methodist minister. In the first cooperative education system in the country, students worked for a week after which took classes for any week. In 1942, Textile Industrial Institute became Spartanburg Junior College when it focused on providing associate degrees designed for transfer into many different bachelor degree programs. In 1974, Spartanburg Junior College was re-named Spartanburg Methodist College. The college is now celebrating its centennial anniversary.

The college is affiliated with all the United Methodist Church and with the South Carolina Annual Conference. It can be accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as well as the University Senate of the United Methodist Church. Spartanburg Methodist College offers 4 degree programs: Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Criminal Justice, and Associate in Religious Research. The college also presents a Paralegal Certification System.

Spartanburg Methodist College is often a Division I member of Area X of your National Junior College Athletic Association. Region X contains colleges in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. Spartanburg Methodist College presents 14 intercollegiate athletic programs which include Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Tennis, Softball, Volleyball, and Wrestling. The college's athletic teams have won quite a few regional, divisional, and national titles.

Graduates of Spartanburg Methodist College are ready for each transfer to senior colleges and for instant employment.
